THE STORY BEHIND Z PAINTING

From Boat Paint to
Building a Family Business

A story built on experience, craftsmanship, and family.

THE FOUNDING STORY

Meet Mike Zweber

Founder & Owner

Mike Zweber didn't exactly take the traditional path into the painting business.

His first experience with professional coatings came way back in junior high, painting boats at Long Beach Marina and working with epoxy coatings. It was hands-on, messy, and a pretty good introduction to the idea that the finished product is only as good as the work underneath it.

A few years later, while attending college, Mike spent a summer working for College Craft Painters in Minnesota. That's where he really learned the painting trade— proper preparation, application techniques, attention to detail, and what it takes to leave a job you can be proud of.

After graduating from Humboldt State University, Mike took a completely different route, spending the next 17 years working in Corporate America. But painting never really left him.

When Mike eventually moved his family to Lake Arrowhead, he decided it was time to get back to something he had always enjoyed. That decision eventually became Z Painting, Inc.

BUILDING SOMETHING THAT LASTS

More Than a Painting Company

Today, Mike is doing more than running a painting company. He's building a family business that will continue long after he's ready to slow down.

His son, Merrick, has been learning the trade since 2020, getting the same kind of hands-on education Mike believes is so important. Today, Merrick runs his own Z Painting division serving Orange County.

For Mike, that's an important part of the story.

It's not just about passing along a business. It's about passing along a trade, a work ethic, and a standard of craftsmanship that was taught to him decades ago.

From painting boats at a marina in junior high to teaching his son the trade today, Mike's path back to painting has been anything but ordinary.

Different generation. Same commitment to doing the job right.
THE NEXT GENERATION

Meet Merrick

The Next Generation of Z Painting

Merrick's journey with Z Painting began in 2020, learning the trade alongside the same principles that have guided the company from the beginning: prepare properly, pay attention to the details, and take pride in the finished product.

Today, he's putting that experience to work through his own Z Painting division in Orange County.

The name may stay the same. The next generation is making it his own.
